THE ESCULTOR DANIEL COMPETITION

FOR FASHION ACCESSORY, JEWELLERYAND FOOTWEAR DESIGN

AIMS

To preserve and promote Escultor Daniel and his body of work

To support training for young artists and their artistic endeavours

COMPETITION GUIDELINES

1. ELEGIBILITY AND CATEGORIES

Students enrolled in art schools or academic studies programmes associated with the world of art, fashion and design may participate. Participants are not required to have Spanish nationality nor to be legal residents of Spain, nor located in Spain. Participants must be young artists or creatives who are at least 18 years old. They must not have reached 36 years of age when submitting their documents for registration.

Submissions must be original. They may not have been entered in any other competition similar to this one or used previously for commercial purposes.

* Young Professional: fashion and fashion jewellery designer or design team

* Student: students enrolled in academic programmes related to fashion or fashion design. Participants in this category may not currently be working nor have ever worked as a professional artist.

2. THE THEME: ESCULTOR DANIEL’S SCULPTURES, DRAWINGS, AND PAINTINGS

In this competition, Escultor Daniel’s works will inspire the design of fashion accessories (handkerchiefs, bags, umbrellas, necklaces, bracelets, etc.), footwear and fashion jewellery.

The collections produced by participants must consist of three (3) separate pieces. The five finalists selected in each category will commit to producing a prototype of each of the three pieces they have submitted.

3.- THE COMPETITION PROCESS

PHASE 1: REGISTRATION

The submission of application for registration and documentation will be made through the email address fundación.escultor.daniel@gmail.com indicating name, surname, number of National Identity Document or the corresponding one in each country, mail, telephone and postal address .

The following documents must be submitted together with the entry registration form:

– a copy of the participant’s identification card or passport. If the participant is a company, they must provide their tax identification number. – professional accreditation: professional degree or certificate and CV – student accreditation: current enrolment in studies related to fashion design

Participants should state the artistic name they are using to submit their collection.

By submitting a registration form to enter the competition, participants agree to follow all applicable guidelines and rules.

PHASE 2: PROJECT SUBMISSION

Sketches of collections may be submitted from 15 to 31 May 2021. Any and all technical and artistic explanations of entries must be submitted by email to: fundación.escultor.daniel@gmail.com. All participants in each category should identify themselves using their artistic name.

Entries must be submitted with the following documentation, which must be signed by the applicant or their representative:

  • applicant identification, the name of the collection, mobile telephone number and email address;
  • the artistic name under which the participant is submitting their collection;
  • a technical description of each item featuring the following elements, at minimum:
  • front and back sketches detailing all submission characteristics, drawn on DIN A4 paper; a technical description accompanying each sketch; the artistic name of the competition participant, the title of their collection, and the design title, if applicable, must appear on the back of each sheet.
  • a sworn declaration that all submissions are originals and that they have not been entered in nor received awards at any other competition.
  • Fashion design and footwear submissions: Prototypes and/or samples of the material to be used in the submission may be included as an optional element.
  • Similarly, any other document considered relevant to project evaluation, e.g. the artistic creation’s price/value, may accompany the technical information sheet.
  • If submissions are associated with a company that would produce the design, this aspect will be evaluated.

The collection description should be fully defined by the information provided in the sketches and technical descriptions, which should be wholly sufficient for their evaluation according to the established judging criteria.

In the event that the information contained in the sworn declarations is false, the corresponding submissions may be disqualified, and prizes, if granted, may be withdrawn.

All information obtained throughout the competition will be considered the exclusive property of competition participants and will be regarded as confidential for all intents and purposes.

One winner will be selected from among the finalists in each category.

PHASE 3: FINALIST SELECTION AND PROTOTYPE SUBMISSION

Collection prototypes will be submitted from 3 to 30 June 2021.

The five finalists in each category will be made public by their artistic names on the Foundation website. The Foundation will contact finalists by email to request that their prototypes be physically sent to the following address:

4. THE JURY

A panel of art professionals from the realm of fashion design and experts in the history of apparel and jewellery will evaluate the entries submitted to this competition.

The panel members will be named publicly on the competition website.

5. JUDGING CRITERIA

As long as competition participants meet the contest requirements and there is no cause for exclusion as identified in the rules, their competition submission will make them eligible to receive the corresponding prizes as judged, according to the following criteria. Points will be awarded for:

  1. a clear connection with Escultor Daniel as their source of inspiration;
  2. design originality, quality and creativity;
  3. conceptual innovation and suitability

A simple majority vote will decide the winner. If there is a tie, the association President will cast the deciding vote.

Once judged according to the criteria described in this document, the pieces that meet the requirements established in these guidelines will be ranked in order by the number of points awarded, from most to least. Prizes will be awarded to the top-ranking entries. The Foundation will not be held responsible for any damages to materials submitted during shipping and handling, or during exhibit, storage or similar circumstances.

The winning designs will remain in the possession of Fundación Escultor Daniel, but artists will retain the intellectual property rights to the works they have submitted. To that end, participants grant the Foundation the rights to their designs for the purposes of their exhibition and use in the creation of posters, leaflets, press releases, television appearances, etc. Acquisition of exclusive rights to the winning designs by the Foundation also includes any rights for use, distribution, exhibition, publication, reproduction, transformation, public communications, etc., and in general, any rights that may be legally transferred according to their broadest possible legal definition. Those rights may be exercised by the holder in whatever manner they see fit with no applicable limitation in time or geographical territory.

6. PRIZES.

A) The gross prize awarded in the PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY will be €1,000 and a commitment to create the winning collection.

B) The gross prize awarded in the STUDENT CATEGORY will be €350 and a commitment to create the winning collection.

Public health and safety circumstances permitting, a visit to a design or fashion trade show will also be offered to the winner of the student category.

Prizes may go unawarded.

7. RESPONSIBILITIES ACCEPTED BY WINNERS

By submitting an entry to the competition, participants unconditionally accept all contest guidelines, requirements and obligations as described herein.

All prizes are awarded under these guidelines on the condition that the winners comply with those obligations by virtue of their status as winners. Non-compliance with those obligations will invalidate the provisional prize that would have been granted to the prize-winner, rendering the award null and void.

8. TIMELINE

REGISTRATION PERIOD→ 29 March to 29 April 2021

ENTRY SUBMISSION PERIOD→ 15 to 31 May 2021

PROTOYPE SUBMISSION→ 3 to 30 June 2021

ENTRY JUDGING AND PANEL DECISION→ first half of October 2021

These dates may be modified by the Foundation based on how the competition proceeds. Changes to said dates will be published on the Fundación Escultor Daniel and ESDIR websites.

9. PERSONAL DATA

The personal information submitted by participants will be added to an automated file in Fundación Escultor Daniel’s possession. That data will be processed in accordance with the provisions established by Spanish Law 15/1999 of 13 December on Personal Data Protection and Spanish Law 34/2002 of 11 July on Information Society Services and E-commerce.

10. JURISDICTION

All parties waive their rights to appeal in their own legal jurisdictions and expressly agree to submit to the legal and court authorities of Logroño, Spain in the event of disputes resolved through legal action.
